World Handicapping System (WHS)
Golf Canada Revisions for 2024

Golf Canada has adopted changes to the Rules of Handicapping which will take effect in 2024.  There are two main revisions. They deal with the treatment of posted 9-Hole Scores and the treatment of posting Holes not Played.

9-Hole Scores

Previously, when a 9-hole score was posted, it had to be combined with another 9-hole score to create an 18-hole Score Differential before it could be counted for handicap purposes.  Also, a minimum of 7 holes had to be played to be allowed to enter a 9-hole score.

In 2024, when a 9-hole score is posted, the system will calculate an 18-hole Score Differential based on the holes played.  However, as part of this change, golfers are required to play all 9 holes and post hole-by-hole. NOTE: 9 Holes is the minimum number of holes that must be played to be eligible for posting a score.

Holes not Played. (Incomplete rounds due to weather or darkness etc)

Previously a minimum of 14 holes had to be played to enter an 18-hole score and “Net Par” had to be entered for the un-played holes.

In 2024, when a player completes between 10-17 holes, a Score Differential for the holes that were played will be calculated by the system and then applied to the un-played holes to produce an 18-hole Score Differential.

As part of this change, players MUST post their played hole scores hole-by-hole and post zero “0” for the un-played holes.
