Handicap Committee Closing Letter 2025
MEMBERS & FUNCTION
The committee consisted of three club members in 2025, Judy McDougall, Mel Reingold and Amy Chan.
As we head into 2026, we’ve had one resignation and are pleased to welcome two new members to the Handicap Committee, Andrew Trotman and Deb Stevenson. We look forward to working with them and appreciate the experience and perspective they bring to the group.
The committee reviewed Match Play, Club Championships, and Ladies’ League entries to ensure all participants had current handicap indexes. A few cases of missing or incorrect score postings were identified and resolved with the individuals involved. This audit process will continue into 2026, with additional audits of Men’s League, closer collaboration with the Pro Shop, and new formal procedures to maintain accuracy and compliance. The committee extends its thanks to the Pro Shop for their ongoing support and partnership in these efforts.
COMMUNICATION
The committee has a section on the club website (under News and Events) where information can be found regarding updates or changes in score posting rules, along with our “Did You Know’s”. We also have a bulletin board in the hallway between the Pro Shop and Locker Rooms where hard copies of the information are posted. There were no changes to the World Handicap System in 2025.
CHANGES IN 2026
As part of our ongoing commitment to fair play and accurate handicaps, the Handicap Committee and Pro Shop will be taking a more active role next season in ensuring that all members keep their Golf Canada scores current.
- The Club/Handicap Committee will be developing a procedure to ensure adherence to timely postings of scores in Golf Canada, along with a step-by-step process to handle compliance issues.
- The Club/Handicap Committee is also considering a guideline stating that members who have fewer than 80% of their rounds posted may be subject to a temporary handicap adjustment or, in some cases, ineligibility for certain events.
- More frequent audits conducted throughout the year for Match Play to ensure compliance with timely postings of scores.
- Develop a process for periodic audits for Men’s League.
- Continue periodic audits of Ladies’ League.
- Pro Shop involvement in posting scores for all competitions.
- Explore additional opportunities and channels of communication to keep members informed and engaged throughout the season.
We will communicate a more detailed approach to the changes for 2026 as we get closer to the new season.
We appreciate the support and cooperation of all members and encourage anyone with questions or concerns to reach out to the Handicap Committee at any time. Your input helps us in our endeavour to maintain a fair and transparent handicap system across the club.
